How a Hydrogen Water Generator Works
A hydrogen water generator uses electrolysis to split water molecules and dissolve hydrogen gas into your drinking water. The result is hydrogen-rich water with a measurable concentration. The Lourdes Hydrofix, the machine in our best hydrogen water generator collection, produces up to approximately 1.6 ppm (±0.05 ppm) using separate-chamber electrolysis, so your drinking water never directly contacts the electrodes.
Dual Chamber vs Single Chamber Systems
Many hydrogen machines use single-chamber electrolysis: the electrodes sit in the water you drink. The Hydrofix runs electrolysis in a separate chamber and passes the hydrogen into the pitcher in very fine bubbles through a Japanese-made multi-layer fiber-reinforced polymer membrane. Your drinking water stays pH neutral, within ±0.1 of the source water, and never touches the electrode surface.

Molecular hydrogen (H₂) is the smallest molecule there is. Dissolved in water, it stays in solution long enough for you to drink it, then escapes over time, so fresh is better. Choosing the Right Hydrogen Water Machine
Not every hydrogen water machine delivers what it promises. Some rely on tablets or magnesium reactions in the glass. Others run electrolysis without a separate chamber, so the electrodes sit in the water you drink. When you're comparing options, focus on three factors: chamber design, electrode material, and independent purity testing. These determine whether you're drinking hydrogen water or just expensive filtered water.
Generator vs Pitcher vs Bottle
A countertop hydrogen water generator makes a full pitcher every cycle; the Hydrofix pitcher holds 1.5 L. Pour in tap, filtered or reverse osmosis water and press start. A bottle works for travel but holds less and needs charging. The Hydrofix is not a portable hydrogen water generator; it plugs in through a universal AC/DC adapter and has no battery. If you're making hydrogen water daily for your whole household, a dedicated countertop machine makes more sense than recharging a bottle several times a day.
Why Electrode Quality Matters
The electrode does the work on every cycle, so its material matters. The Hydrofix uses solid, high-purity titanium-platinum electrodes: 99.928% pure titanium, mill-certified to JIS TP270C, with the platinum catalyst bonded at the molecular level through high-temperature processing. There is no coating or plating to wear off. The JFRL purity test did not detect iron or titanium in the water the Hydrofix produced, under test conditions.

Why Purity Verification Matters
Anyone can claim their machine produces high-purity hydrogen water. We publish the reports. Japan Food Research Laboratories, an accredited Japanese laboratory, tested the water the Hydrofix produces (Certificate No. 2302B7007001-0201, May 16, 2023): selected plasticizers (DEHP, DINP, DIDP), BPA, iron and titanium were not detected under test conditions, and the water meets Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare drinking-water quality standards. Masa International Corp. measured the hydrogen gas output at 134.2 mL/min (Test No. MM03-6024-01, May 2025). The reports are on our certifications page.
Japanese Engineering Standards
The Hydrofix hydrogen water generator is designed, manufactured and assembled in Japan, with Japanese-made parts. Every unit is individually tested at the factory before shipping and leaves with its own hydrogen concentration certificate tied to that unit. Electronic and electrode components are made in ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 certified factories. The machine carries UL/CSA product-safety compliance and Japan PSE certification.
Why Japan
The Hydrofix is made in Japan, and the standard we wanted when we chose it was documented parts and documented tests: a titanium mill certificate, an accredited lab's purity certificate, a measured gas output, and a per-unit hydrogen certificate. When a Hydrofix ships from Japan, those papers exist. That's the difference between a product and a promise.
Material Integrity From Start to Finish
The pitcher is Japanese-made and BPA- and BPHF-free. The membrane is a Japanese-made multi-layer fiber-reinforced polymer membrane. The electrodes are solid titanium with the platinum bonded in, not layered on. The JFRL test looked for phthalate plasticizers and BPA in the water and did not detect them under test conditions. Those are the materials we can document, so those are the ones we list.
How to Use Your Generator Daily
Fill the 1.5 L pitcher. Press start. Separate-chamber electrolysis generates the hydrogen and dissolves it into the water in very fine bubbles. Pour and drink it soon after it's made, since dissolved hydrogen escapes over time. The generator handles the chemistry. You handle the routine. Our suggested use is 1–2 pitchers a day, plus a 30-minute inhalation session if you use the included inhalation lid and cannula.
Which Water to Use
Tap, well, filtered, mineral, spring, alkaline, reverse osmosis or distilled water all work in the Hydrofix. Don't use saltwater or seawater. Because electrolysis happens in a separate chamber, the water you pour in is the water you drink, with hydrogen added and pH unchanged within ±0.1. If you already filter your water for taste, keep doing that.
Cleaning and Maintenance Schedule
The Hydrofix has one scheduled consumable: the cartridge, which comes pre-installed and is replaced every 12 months. Keep the pitcher clean the way you'd keep any pitcher clean. The English user's manual in the box covers the rest. No plumbing, no installation, no technician visits.
